1 7 year old girl with auditory processing difficulties. Took 1 course of REVAMP.
Before Beatrice started at KidzGrow, she lacked confidence and self esteem. She had problems reading (as at 7 years old she could not read) and copying words on to her exercise book from the blackboard. She did not do well in her school exams.

After doing REVAMP, coupled with some extensive reading exercises at home, she is now a confident girl. She has improved her exam marks by 100% in three months. She is happy to attend all classes at KidzGrow. What is more is that she is now excited at learning new things and oozes with confidence.

2 5 year-old boy with short attention span, easily distracted, poor motor coordination and fine motor control. Took 1 course of REVAMP.

My son NM was born prematurely in the year 2003. Because he was a preemie we were warned by paediatricians that he may be delayed in achieving his developmental milestones, they also said that he would ‘catch up’ once he was older.  As parents we accepted it all in good faith since at that point of time, we were primarily concerned that his health was not affected in any way due to his prematurity. We  however noted that he met his milestones later than others in his age group, still we were not unduly worried over it all.

NM’s younger brother AG was born in 2004.  When AG turned 3 and NM was 4, we began to notice differences, minute at first, which became more and more distinct as the brothers grew older. When NM turned 4, we began to worry. Since we had AG to compare with, the differences between them disturbed us.  NM had increasing bouts of tantrums such as over a toy that he wanted, whether at home or in a mall, when he wanted something he had to have it and had a tantrum when we didn’t give in. We enrolled him in preschool at 3 yrs so that he would experience a wider social environment, later on we found out from a child psychologist, that enrolling him very early in preschool was just about the best move that we had made for NM. But school life that first year was difficult, he was unsociable, didn’t sit still during class and didn’t follow the lessons smoothly.

When he turned 5, we enrolled him with a speech therapist, it did wonders for him but still the tantrums were there though much lesser, he was still inattentive and got distracted easily. His writing was very poor compared to AG and he wrote with difficulty. We wanted to do more for him and I was looking around ‘googling’ on the internet, asking friends for advice and generally thinking what else to do when I stumbled across the Kidzgrow advertisement in the newspapers. I was immediately excited and after consulting my husband, we had him evaluated.  The analysis of the evaluation was pretty much in line with what we already knew about NM and confirmed our concerns for NM. But we were excited at the prospect of being in a situation and position to improve the quality of our beloved son’s life.

NM enrolled for REVAMP in 2007 and completed 24 sessions. I noticed improvements after 3 sessions, it was easier to get him to sit down and complete his homework, he was more attentive when we spoke to him and the most important thing was that he enjoyed his REVAMP classes and looked forward to them. As parents we too were educated by Kidsgrow in learning to handle our child, how to improve his senses, his motor skills. As a scientific person, I was skeptical at first, I needed to be convinced that what he was doing in REVAMP can help, I wanted reasonings and explanations behind every single activity in REVAMP, but I was still willing to give it a shot.  I understood the need for the clay dough to improve his grasp, the vibrating pencil to improve his control, the massaging to improve blood circulation throughout his body and stimulate his nerves, thus supporting and improving his motor skills, the jumping on the trampoline, the clockwise and counter clockwise movements on the rotating board etc. I analysed all these in my mind, finding the answers to be factual and science based reasonings and was finally convinced of the goodness that REVAMP has to offer, through the stimulation of all the senses.

Many people who have known NM commented on his improvements in almost every aspect. His paediatrician also commented that NM had improved by ‘leaps and bounds’.   Before he used to be unsociable, and hide his face from people he wasn’t familiar with. Now he can walk up to a visitor in our home and introduce himself or talk to the person with familiarity. I find it easier to get him to complete his homework, since he was able to sit still longer and be more attentive. He was also making friends in school and the preschool teachers have also constantly praised his improvements in class. He had made such an impact on the teachers that he was selected to give a short speech for the annual concert.  You cannot imagine how I and my husband felt when he came on stage to deliver his 6-line speech. I thought my heart would burst with pride and we as parents never thought that one day we would hear our son talk with such clarity and confidence in front of hundreds of parents and children.

In fact he has been a role model to other students who come in with learning difficulties, teachers ask parents to talk to me to find out how to help their children and to answer the final question, this is my message to all parents, don’t give up and don’t despair. There is always something that can be done for your child. There is always an avenue, a way through the darkness into the light.  Though I would say that he still has a long way to go, I am mostly glad that we are on the right track and made the right decisions for him in enabling him to be more independent and confident through programmes such as REVAMP.

But above all, NM is now a happier child, he is willing to listen to reason on why he cannot have something such as a toy, he is able to tell us what went on in school, who did what, he is able to walk up to a clown and ask for a balloon when not so very long ago, he would cry and cover his eyes and asked to be brought home rather than face a clown. He is able to hold a pencil in the proper manner and write his name proudly. I can confidently say that aside from the speech therapist, Kidsgrow’s Revamp programme has played a major role in enriching the quality of NM’s childhood years.

3 7 year-old girl, delayed speech and poor eye contact when spoken. Took 1 course of REVAMP and 1 course of Fast ForWord

My daughter was what I thought, a fairly normal child. She was a happy baby and never really much of a problem. She was always on the go and up and walking at 14 months. Like a lot of children, she was hard to potty train.

At the age of 3 it was obvious that my daughter preferred solitary playing as opposed to be socially associated to children of her age group. Being the first child in the family, I thought she needed some time to get along with other kids since she had no siblings.

By the time she was 4 years old, she had problems playing with other children. Children, including her cousins, refused to play with her and so she spent much of her time playing alone.

Although she could pronounce certain words clearly, I as a parent was deprived of the beauty of interaction between a mother and her child. The communication between her and others was always minimal. She seemed to be “parroting” the questions you asked or words said to her. She couldn’t sit still to watch a tv show or get involved in any activity for long. From then on I realised that she had a very short attention span.

When someone spoke to her, she would not have that eye contact with you. That really bothered me & my husband when we found out that it was one of the symptoms of having autism, so we began pursuing this issue with a Child Psychiatrist at KK Children’s Hospital in Singapore.

Hearing tests were done and soon she was taking speech therapy at a local centre run by a friend’s contact. It was a trial and error approach as the therapist lacked equipment because she was renting her friend’s place. As we couldn’t afford to seek assistance from established centres since it was not financially feasible for us, we had to live with what was available then.

Subsequently, her therapy sessions in Singapore were disrupted when her father got a job offer in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and brought the entire family along. We hoped the problems would fade away as she grew older but that did not materialise. Her behaviour problems became more apparent and new problems arose when she was put into a classroom setting. She could not perform simple functions such as cutting, drawing, writing, copying etc. She couldn't sit still in her seat. She often spent her hours in class, wandering aimlessly through the classroom touching everything, unable to stay on task no matter what she chose to do. The teacher, over burdened with many children, claimed they had no time for her. As long as she didn't bother other students, she was allowed to wander through the class doing as she pleased.

It was heartbreaking to watch as she never got called upon to act out the little stories that they learned. Her papers were never chosen to be placed on the wall, she was never invited to play with the other children when they were having outdoor gaming sessions, all of her behaviour. We now had something else to worry about, her self-esteem.

The diagnoses from her school teachers was Psychosis. "Your child is Psychotic" (although they weren’t that blunt). “She speaks to herself in class as if she is acting in her own world and that often became the laughing stock of her classmates”. Those statements were very painful for us as parents to absorb. Soon after, we withdrew her from the school.

We started to do some research about child behavioural and learning problems over the internet. After acquiring some knowledge about Autism, ADHD etc, we started to search for solutions. That’s when we stumbled on KidzGrow’s website. That we must say was the turning point. And the rest before it is history, not a good one obviously.

Our first encounter in Kidzgrow was a pleasant experience … although there were doubts in us whether the program will really work for our child.

After the evaluation, she was recommended to take REVAMP for her first level of therapy sessions. She can be very difficult to work with, but after 6 weeks of undergoing REVAMP, she looked forward to coming for it. There is no way to put a price tag on a child's self-esteem. My daughter’s struggles in school with reading and handwriting had destroyed her self-esteem.

Now, she can keep her writing in the lines and read at her grade level. Her confidence in herself has returned. Additionally, her ability to catch and throw balls and small objects improved greatly. She went through REVAMP for 2 sessions.

She showed signs of improvement one month after beginning Fast ForWord, which she had undergone for 5 times a week. Now, after completion of 2 sessions of Fast ForWord, she finishes her homework within a short period, no complaints, picks up her favourite books to read (in bed, in the car, on the morning before school), and has improved in spelling and comprehension to a great degree. Most importantly, she is much more comfortable in an academic environment now. Her interest and performance match her level of intelligence more closely
Feedback from her school form teacher is very encouraging. According to her teacher in this new school, she participates enthusiastically and is responsive to interactive activities. Now, she can even create conversations with her teachers and classmates.

If you told me a year ago, that I can get a product which can make my so-called labelled “psychotic” child do well in school, I probably would have said that you really have a good sense of humour.

REVAMP & Fast ForWord can't be the solution to all problems, but gives me all more energy to focus on the areas where work still needs to be done. The programmes helped my daughter’s problems with reading, writing and comprehension and overall school performance. Her improved communication skills with others is absolutely noticeable. She has good friends in her new school now and her cousins who used to isolate her in game plays have accepted her into their social circle.

As parents, we sent her to KidzGrow without the expectation of her to become a genius, but rather to make her socially acceptable among her peer group and help her ability to be educated like any normal child.

My daughter is a happier child now. I think the programs have made a real difference in her life, and she’s definitely not that “psychotic” child like what some people labelled her to be.

Thank you KidzGrow. You have proven those type casters wrong.

Keep up your good work!

Happy Mum

Firstly thank you KidzGrow and it’s a blessing to know you all and the centre. As the programme instructor explained to me all about brain re-wiring and sharing with me all about learning difficulties, I am certain that you all are very knowledgeable and passionate about helping those who have learning issues.

It was great to have Dominick to get to know KidzGrow and attend the programmes. It gave him a sense of himself, he overcome his fears, anxieties, maximize his learning potential and is more focused in his work. After the second post-test, I felt that he is more energized, has improved his concentration and is more alert on his surroundings. I can see results and improvements!

For the results that we have gained from KidzGrow, I will not hesitate to recommend this centre to my friends.

Once again thank you very much!

6 5 year-old boy, poor school performance. Took 1 course of Fast ForWord.

We started to be concerned that there may be something amiss when our son often has to ask us how to write certain alphabets even though he started learning his ABCs at 3+ years old. Also, he had the tendency to mix up certain alphabets and numbers like “b” and “d” and “p”, “q” and “9” as well as read some words in the reverse. He enjoyed his teachers and friends at kindergarten but not the lessons and homework. It was a hard time to get him ready for school except on days when there was a school outing. Getting him to do his homework had been a difficult task although we found that compared to other kindergartens, the homework he brought home once a week were rather simple. Although we were not concerned about him being able to spell at 5+ years old but a few occasions we tested spelling with him, he just couldn’t register the words although his kindergarten taught phonics.

As we had the intention of enrolling John in a Chinese primary school, we encouraged him to attend a Chinese reading programme at MEB centre, which also incorporates lessons on “suku kata” in Bahasa Melayu. He showed marked improvement in his recognition of Chinese characters within 2 weeks into the programme and he showed more interest in the Chinese language.

However, the above mentioned problems were still our main concern. We learnt about Kidzgrow from an article in the Star newspaper in 2006 and after pondering for about 6 months, we decided to send John for the evaluation which revealed that he may have an auditory processing problem. We then signed John up for the FastForWord as recommended albeit the lengthy duration of the programme which meant that we had to be away from our home in Johor Bahru and John being absent from kindergarten classes for 2 whole months.

The first change that I noticed in John immediately after the first evaluation conducted at Kidzgrow was that he is more careful with his diction. After 2 weeks into the FastForWord, he showed improvement in his spelling skills. It’s as though the words could now “stick” and “register” in his brain. Thus it has become easier to coach him in spelling. He is also more willing to start reading some story books in the Malay language (though still with some help).

After the completing the FastForWord, there were occasions that he picked up a story book on his own accord to read, although we can’t yet say he loves reading on his own. (He still prefers to be read to.) John enjoyed the FastForWord, though he didn’t enjoy staying away from home (in Johor Bahru) 8 weeks to attend the programme (in Kuala Lumpur). Some changes that others noticed in John is that he became even more expressive and therefore more talkative. However, this landed him in trouble with his teachers when he resumed classes at kindergarten.

We also noticed that he was more willing to practice the piano when reminded, although we would still have to remind him to do so. While he has overcome certain habits like, keeps checking things over again and again, he still does not like to stay alone in one part of the house by himself.

We are thankful that Kidgrow have made the FastForWord available in Malaysia and John had the opportunity to attend this programme early, at 5+ years old while he could still afford to miss lessons at kindergarten. We hope that in time to come there could be more awareness on auditory processing disorders in children so that such children have a chance to enjoy learning instead of being labeled stupid. We hope that in the near future Kidgrow will be able to make this programme available to other states in Malaysia and at a more affordable rate, perhaps through online programme or a more flexible schedule as not many could be fortunate to be able to stay in Kuala Lumpur for 8 weeks away from their home.

Recently, John started Primary 1 in a Chinese government school and we are glad to say that he enjoys going to school (being in afternoon session has also helped) and so far has not yet complain about his homework which he has been dutifully completing everyday.

7 13 year-old boy, difficulties with social interaction and self confidence. Took 12 sessions of REVAMP, 1 course of Fast ForWord and 1 course AVAMS programme.

My main area of concern would be for my son to be more confident about himself. To be more organized and independent and to be able to handle school homework without much supervision.

His difficulties lie in organizing his homework and completing tasks given.
Due to the amount of work from school increasing, he becomes frustrated and has low self esteem as he can’t complete the tasks in time.

He has been having home tuition since year 2006 and is currently still having tuition lessons in BM, math and science.

He has taken the REVAMP and FastForword. About 6 weeks for each program.

He has shown improvement in terms of self confidence that if he puts in some effort, he can actually do better. He can stay focused and concentrate and complete his homework with some encouragement in other words, he’s more independent. He has become more alert and has a higher awareness. He knows and understands what his responsibilities are and tries harder to achieve them. His family members and teachers have noticed his improvements.

He is much happier now and enjoys the Kidzgrow programmes. I would like other parents to know that there is always hope and help anytime, especially at Kidzgrow, Don’t give up yet.

13 years old boy
-Difficulties with social interaction and self confidence.
-Took 12 sessions of REVAMP, 1 course of Fast ForWord and 1 course AVAMS programme.

8 5 years old boy, diagnosed with mild autistic traits and attentional difficulties. Took 3 courses of Fast ForWord, 1 course of AVAMS and 12 sessions REVAMP

My grandson was diagnosed with ADD in 2006 at the age of 4years 8months. He was not able to speak in simple sentences and unable to connect words. He babbled to himself quite a lot and only uttered 2-3words, most of the time he would use gestures rather than using spoken language. He was quite withdrawn to himself and preferred to play on his own. The teacher in school complained that he was disruptive in class, he’d walk around and disturb other children while the class was going on. He had a short attention span and was easily distracted. The teachers in school continued to complain that he refused to participate in their activities and he continued to disturb the other children.

After the first 12 sessions of REVAMP and 8 weeks of FAST FORWORD, I noticed that he didn’t throw so many tantrums anymore and his language skills had improved. His vocabulary too improved greatly, he was able to talk in simple sentences and communicate more. He was more cooperative and able to follow and take instructions without getting into tantrums. He has become more patient and able to listen more attentively.

The feedback from the teacher in school was also very favorable, {she said} he was able to sit quietly and independently do his work with very little assistance from the teacher and he also started to participate in their activities. He was also starting to communicate more with the teachers and friends in school.

From a quiet boy, he has now turned into one who is so chatty, he has got so many things to tell us. He is now able to form proper sentences and has no problem in reading. Anything he sees he will read even when he doesn’t know how to pronounce the words he will try reading using the phonetic sound and he is even able to tell you stories!
He is obviously a happier child, being able to communicate more and understand a lot more things around him.

The greatest joy is seeing his improvement in making friends, playing and conversing with them. Give your child all the love, patience, understanding and opportunity to help them develop into a beautiful person. Seeing my grandson progress so fast, I am really happy and grateful that the programme at Kidzgrow has helped and benefited him in his disability, I wish to thank the coordinators and staff of Kidzgrow for being so wonderful and patient with the children.

Before Kidzgrow he was more on his own, now he can mix around with his friends, it’s a joy for me to see him running around. He can express himself better, and being able to express himself he can interact with the peers in his class.

His speech therapist has noticed his changes {she said} ‘ Hey! He’s stopped whispering!’ and he displayed an air of confidence during the session with her so she was quite impressed.

11 5 year-old boy, weak in language and communication skills. Took 2 courses of Fast ForWord and 24 sessions REVAMP.

After joining, the first program my son did was Revamp. After the first week of Revamp, the first improvement I saw was that he was not dreamy at all, he was a lot more alert and could concentrate. After 2months of Revamp he managed to write, copy, color and follow simple instructions! If I think back to the first day and now, Dheeran is a totally brand new Dheeran! Last time he was just lost, now he has come back to the real world, he’s in our world!

You must have faith, if you notice there is a problem, accept it and get help for the child. Don’t wait, immediately go for help, that’s my message to all the parents out there.

12 6 year-old boy diagnosed with Language Delay and ASD.Took 3 courses of REVAMP and 2 courses of Fast ForWord

The first improvement we noticed was speech. His verbal speech expanded a little and he started making phonetic sounds. Slowly his pencil grip improved and we can tell that he is trying harder to write better. Towards the end, we noticed more awareness, willingness to try and speech improvement.

Everybody noticed improvements though they can’t pinpoint what the improvement is. They say he is calmer and just better. He doesn’t resist going to Kidzgrow though sometimes he is upset with the activities in REVAMP. Maybe they were too tedious for him or he was upset that he couldn’t perform certain tasks.

I would urge other parents to try all avenues that might help their child. Find out their weaknesses and find the relevant therapy/activities to address them. Prioritize which symptoms need to be addressed first and work step by step from there. Don’t just stress on academics, other skills like fine motor, gross motor, listening skills, attention span etc are equally important and interlinked.

-Background
Was previously diagnosed with Language Delay and ASD. His LSE results show difficulties in all areas (motor coordination, handwriting, copying, listening and visual perception skills

-Parent's concerns

13 8 year-old boy, weak in sensory integration, attention and problem of understanding. 24 sessions of REVAMP and 40 sessions of Play Attention

After taking up REVAMP and Play Attention in Kidzgrow since Jan 07, we are amazed with his improved ability to communicate with us more frequently. He has more patience and more concentration in his studies.

Now he asks a lot of questions like “Where is my papa?” “What happened?” “Mummy don’t drive so fast, drive slowly.” Now he can say these sentences very frequently and thoughtfully with ease and at the right moment.

He can actually sit down and focus for a longer period of time and now he is beginning to enjoy his studies very much.

-Background
LSE was done when he was 8 years 2 months. He went for sensory integration programme before he came for LSE but parents didn't notice improvement.
He was unable to perform some tests during the LSE e.g. IVA(attention test), Scan-C(auditory processing skills test) and DEM( Eye-movement test) due to his short span of attention and problem of understanding.

-Parents concerned
Parents concerned about his attention(inattentive, easily distracted and overactive) , his emotional control and communication skills which affected his social skills, and his reading & comprehension affected his learning too.

-Sessions of programmes
Gone through 24 sessions(3months) of REVAMP and 40sessions(5months) of Play Attention .

- Results
1) RFT(Number/Letters reversal test ) : improved from >10% to 10-20%
2) VMI (visual motor integration test, copying test): improved from 7% to 37%

14 6 year-old boy who having speech delay. Took 12 sessions of REVAMP and 2 courses of Fast forWord

Prior to attending KidzGrow, my 6-year old son was struggling with his speech and had difficulty with his school work as he had very short memorizing ability. As a result of this, he was handicapped and he found it difficult to express himself. With the intention to put him on a level playing field when he starts Standard One next year, I decided to enroll him with KidzGrow in the hope that he would improve his all round abilities.

My son has been with KidzGrow for more than 4 months now. Our family has noticed stark improvement in him in terms of his speech and ability to grasp new things taught to him in his pre-school. Along with this, he has also become more inquisitive as he has started to ask questions on subjects he did not understand. He can actually be involved in a conversation with his aunt nowadays, something he was not able to do 6 months ago. Although he has not yet reached the level I want him to be, KidzGrow was definitely effective in helping him to improve his abilities and this is very important for his confidence and his future development moving forward.
